An Open Discussion- Black Lives Matter
When we first created the Better Together campaign the focus was to provide reduced rate counseling for LGBTQ+ individuals who otherwise would not be able to afford such services. It was a specific goal in light of PRIDE month and our desire to celebrate diversity within this group.
With the deaths of Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor and George Floyd and the vast discussions around racial inequality, we felt compelled to stand in solidarity with our friends in the black community. What was once a small focused goal for a specific grouping of people, suddenly felt like a much bigger platform to enact good and utilize the gifts and resources we have been privileged with to support others.
We are sorry for any confusion this may have caused and our lack of sensitivity. We feel grateful to be learning and growing in the midst of all of this and we want to do better so we can be better.
SO, the Better Together, for the month of June, will be in support of offering reduced rate counseling services to those who identify within the LGBTQ+ community.
Black Lives Matter.
Moving forward, Sunshine City Counseling is dedicated to growing our staff to be more inclusive. Every quarter, we will be highlighting a different non-profit that we will be donating to that will specifically impact the black community. This upcoming quarter we will be donating to The Loveland Foundation (more to come on this). As a team, we are also looking at ways we can give back to the black community within St. Pete as well as other minority groups.
We are built for community. At Sunshine City, we want to be a part of the conversation.
We are better together.
Standing Together,
The Team at Sunshine City Counseling
