Resources For Being An Antiracist
Our heart and intention at Sunshine City Counseling is to be a safe place for people to land. Throughout the course of our organization, being a safe place has taken on many different forms from individual counseling sessions, family work, group therapy, workshops all in an effort to better our community.
Right now, it is important for us to stand with our friends and family in the black community. Our desire is that we, as a collective of people, can move towards one another with grace, repentance and a willingness to examine how we—those who are white—have perpetuated systemic racism and in turn so much pain and hurt.
As a team, we are so very much for the diversity that is represented in each of our families and in our larger family of St. Petersburg, FL. We hope and trust that you’ll find the information below to be an invitation to step into understanding more about systemic racism, your own biases and how you can begin the long and hard work of becoming antiracist.
It should be noted that this is by no means an exhaustive list, how could it be? There are numerous books, articles, videos, documentaries, etc that are so impactful. These are just but a handful of ones we have, personally, found to be useful in our own understanding and journey. We will be updating this list to reflect more of our own journeys and what we have found to be helpful
May we not only listen but embody a posture of grace and repentance…
